maybe I am alone in this, but I don't see why parents should lie to their children about this commercial propaganda spokesman or anything else for that matter. I don't see the harm in with holding information from children until they are perceived to be ready to accept it such as sex education and such, but that is far different from telling them out right lies just for the sake of a tradition that seems to have been started by merchants for merchants and against parental interests.
someone might explain to me the benefit of teaching children to expect presents just because the calendar says its a certain day that many but not all people have decided should be such a day?
seems to me that peer pressure has made many humans into german clocks.... the clock strikes chrismas time and they get out the lights, put up the decorations and hand out presents, no thought as to why, just do it.

Is repititive imprinting of ideas a primary cult tactic?
by hubert inin a post by syn that lady lee has brought up again, there is this statement by syn.
i could underline my watchtower in 10 minutes, tops, and be sure that all the answers were right.
many esteemed researchers have shown that repetitive imprinting of ideas is a primary cult tactic, and i tend to agree with them.

Regarding the holy Trinity
by kristiano1122 ini want to know why jw dont accept the holy trinity even though there is enough biblical evidence in the bible regarding this.
the following passages are from the book of john .
1:1. in the beginning was the word: and the word was with god: and the word was god.

I am not a christian any longer nor do I even Believe Jesus was a real person any more
but to look at the bible as any other story I am dumb struck by trinitarians seeing Jesus as God by only a few out of context verses and ignoring the vast majority of the story which shows he was not God at all.
point 1. I object to the trinity as being biblical because not one person in the bible ever teaches such a thing to anyone else in the bible, teh only examples of anyone teaching this doctrine come from outside the bible period.
point 2. I find no evidence Jews ever held a three part view of God and still don't and it seems to me that all early christians being jews could not simply have changed their view of God without a serious amount of mentioning it.
point 3. Paul is quite clear that to US [him and his fellow believers I assume] there is but ONE god, the father. [1 cor 8:6] Can't get much clearer than that.... not to mention when Paul told the greeks on mars hill that he came to proclaim what they called the Unknown God and his SON, a MAN, whom God established as judge, etc.... these were not jews and would have accepted a trinity better than Jews, yet paul never mentions anything like that.
point 4. there are 3 visions of heaven in the bible [daniel Acts and Revelations] and these three witnesses agree that there is but ONE who is seated upon the throne called THE ANCIENT OF DAYS, GOD, And THE LORD GOD ALMIGHTY, and this OTHER who is not called GOD by any of them, as the son of MAN, Jesus, and THE LION OF THE TRIBE OF JUDAH.... there is not a single visionary of view of heaven which presents God as a three person conspiracy. Revelations goes so far as to represent the holy spirit as seven, not one, but seven, impersonal bowls of fire and the actions of this holy spirit as represented by seven angels who are also called the eyes of God.
John 8:58 (NIV) "I tell you the truth," Jesus answered, "before Abraham was born, I am
how any one can take this as a reference to God with a straight face is beyond me.... the context was about the messiah and before Abraham existed, the messiah concept existed as well as the person who would fill those sandals, but no where does this indicate godhood... just superhuman nature. the link between I am and YHWH is completely laughable and totally ignorant as the jews who translated YHWH's self description into greek rendered it ego ami ho on, [I am ] THE ETERNAL, not I AM by itself.
Isaiah 7:14 (NIV) Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.
If i am correct, "Immanuel" means "god" or god with us
as to this, the original context of this prophecy was aimed at a non-messiah, presumably Isaiah's own son, who would see the removal of the Assyrians before he learned to accept the good and reject the evil [before age 12].... and naming him Immanuel meaning God with us obviously was a statement of God being with us instead of against us, not being that child.

Numbers 31 shocked me the most, here we find Moses Ordering a war crime and having nothing said by God about it which means God approved of it. as a believer I would give god the benefit of the doubt....however now I just read and think, how could I have ever justified in my mind the murder of defenseless women and children for any reason?

Blinded
by PoppyR inso, i discussed with my husband about 607, showed him the un website etc, and he basically spun round 3 times like taz, and is now just back to saying.. yes there may be mistakes but it's still clearly the truth etc etc.. i'm torn between being frustrated because i know he can see it, and being glad because if he wants to do it, then all well and good.
i quickly realise that unless people are ready and already questioning, there is no point talking to them about the mistakes and lies etc.
it's getting really tough with my kids, because they are asking me questions about jehovah etc that now i want to give them a more balanced viewpoint on.. never in a million years thought i'd be part of a divided household, and if i ever did.. that it would be me that was the one not 'in the truth'.

when me and my ex did a near all nighter reading Apocolypse Delayed, the history of JWs, we both knew everything in the book, but for the first time we were not making mental excuses and saw things very differently....that is the key, a TRUE BELIEVER is basically like a hypnotized subject, he has voluntarily allowed another to think for him to the point of altering his perceptions and tasting apple while biting an onion.... and until he loses trust in his hypnotist and wakes up from the trance, he will not be able to see anything you are seenig.

IS THE WORLD REALLY GETTING WORSE?
by ruari inhi guys,.
my name is ruari phillips, i'm 21 years old and if possible...i'd like to ask a question.. jehovahs witnesses believe the world is getting worse and that as time passes we are approaching armageddon.. but, haven't we always lived in a cruel world?.
since the begginning of time we've been killing each other, there's been diseases, death and destruction.

the only real measure is perhaps the human extinction point, which is somewhere close to the midnight hour according to the bulletin
of the atomic scientists, who keep changing that minute hand back and forth due to world events....
there are many extinction events possible, the only one which seems any different than in the past is the atomic war senario and
there is really no way to tell if we will, as a species, survive a full out atomic war or not....or if we would want to.
every other possibility has been with the human species from its beginning....
the caldera in yellowstone is 40k years over due
an extinction event meteor has always been possible
extinction by plague has been more likely in the past than now.
one book I read shortly after exiting JWs made this imporant point--- the news is mostly bad because the world is mostly neutral to good... when the news is good we are all F=@%ed as that would mean the bad was the norm.

the laws of thermodynamics, often quoted by creationists, are part of classical physics and as such may only
be a statistical illusion which only applies to a limited range of measured events and have nothing to do of necessity with reality itself.
in quantum physics there is the possibility that randomness truly exists on some level [and cannot be completely ruled out as all measurements to date attest] and all such "laws" are only observed probable states that need not be true in all cases.
the prejudice of human logic towards yes or no answers forces people to chose one over the other when neither may be true in all cases... sometimes the answer might be yes while the nearly same apparent event may yeild a no later for the same question... this is addressed by fuzzy logic but not by traditional binary logic of Aristotle.

assuming a real god existed to make all things...how did he learn how to do this if not by trial and error? the belief is that at some point god existed all alone, nothing to learn from no one to teach him and so I dont see how evolution in some way can be avoided.
no matter whether god evolved his understanding or nature evolved the designs, I dont find much difference and so I find no use of this god hypothesis, it just complicates rather than answers.
the notion that god eternally knew all things is a bit stupid as that would mean the knowledge of all things just existed and god had nothing to do with making anything he was just a slave of destiny... nor could god give anyone any sort of freedom as he had none to give.
